How to Replace the CMOS Battery on an IBM 600X
- 1). Close any active applications and shut down your laptop. Disconnect the power cord and any attached devices. Close the display.
- 2). Turn the laptop over. Locate the memory module cover near the back-left corner of the device. Loosen the screw securing the memory module cover in place (do not remove the screw). Lift the edge of the cover nearest the screw and work the other edge free from the computer case. Set the memory module cover aside.
- 3). Locate the cable connecting the existing CMOS battery to the laptop. Use the flat-bladed screwdriver to pry the cable connector free. Remove the existing CMOS battery.
- 4). Connect the replacement CMOS battery to the same connector as the old battery. Insert the battery in the same location as before.
- 5). Replace the memory module cover; insert the tabbed end into the case first, then lower the edge with the screw in it. Tighten the screw to secure the cover in place. Return your laptop to an upright position.
- 6). Reconnect the power cord and any previously disconnected peripheral devices. Installation is now complete, and your laptop is ready for use.
