Painting Suggestions for Bungalow Bedrooms
- Make your small bungalow seem open and airy with paint.Over Water Bungalow image by cullenphotos from Fotolia.com
Bungalow bedrooms may be smaller than those in other home models, so your paint selection can be an important part of making the rooms seem both comfortable and spacious. Your personal tastes and your bungalow's location also play a part in the colors you choose, so don't be afraid to personalize your bungalow bedroom's colors. - Add warmth to your bungalow bedroom with a warm gold, soothing peach or bright salmon color on the upper two-thirds of each bedroom wall, then paint the lower third of the walls white or an off-white that works well with your selected bright color, and add trim, also white or off-white, over the line where the colors meet. The effect will be a bright, airy room that feels warm and cheerful in the morning. If you prefer not to add trim, try painting the bright color on one wall and using white or a lighter shade of your selected warm color on the remaining walls. Using the accent color on a wall with windows helps make that wall a prominent feature of the room and can make the room feel larger simply by drawing the eye to the outdoors.
- Select an icy blue or sorbet-tone light green for your walls in the bungalow bedroom. These colors work particularly well with darker wood floors and trim, although they create a light, seaside feel even with carpet and light colored trim. Select the same color, but a shade or two lighter, for the ceiling, adding a bit more color to the room than a white ceiling can. Add sheer curtains to complete the look.
- Try making your bungalow bedroom seem bigger by pulling attention away from the walls and adding accents of color and texture throughout the room. A subtle beige can make the walls fade away while keeping the room feeling warmer than pure whites would. Add plum or burgundy throw pillows made from shiny, textured fabrics to draw the eye to small, bright items, making the surrounding area seem larger. Add other bits of color with a small table and chairs or textured valences above neutral-colored sheer curtains. Navy blue or forest green accents around the room, on small amounts of trim and matched in the bedding, can add the extra color you need to keep the room from being dull.
