How to Request a Donated Car
- 1). Find a charity. Most charities that donate vehicles can be found online. (Most of the time if you are already receiving rental assistance or food stamps you can also ask your worker about the car donation program and she can help you find a reputable charity).
Make sure you match the charities' criteria. You won't be able to receive a donated car unless you meet certain requirements. Most of these requirements include victims of disaster or domestic abuse, military families, people who live in homeless shelters or those who are currently working but still poor. You will have to show proof of employment or disability status. - 2). Fill out an application. Online applications also require you to write a brief reason as to why you are in need of a car and why you or your family should receive it. Applications require a lot of personal information and may require you to produce pay stubs or other documents to verify you and your family's income.
- 3). Wait and see if you have been accepted. Most of these charities prefer you to call them only if you are donating your own car. To increase your chances, you may want to apply for several car donations at one time.
