Replacing Sections of Aluminum Siding

    • 1). Patch small holes or signs of damage using an epoxy filler. Use a small paint brush to cover the epoxy. Allow it to dry and sand it gently so that it is smooth and even. After you have sanded, use touch-up paint to match the rest of the siding. This will save you the trouble of replacing an entire section to replace a very small hole or dent.

    • 2). Cut away damaged sections using a utility knife. It will likely take several cuts, as aluminum is not as easy to cut as some people believe. Try to keep the pieces you remove rectangular, as this will be easier to patch then oddly shaped pieces.

    • 3). Measure the sections you removed, and cut replacement sections that are 2 inches larger on each side than the pieces you removed.

    • 4). Cut off the nailing flange of the replacement pieces, then apply adhesive caulk to the back of each section.

    • 5). Slide the replacement sections into place, making sure the row above overlaps them by about 1/4-inch. This will help keep water from penetrating the siding.
