    • 1). Use Google for a free, Internet-based solution. Applications such as Google Docs and Gmail support Microsoft Office files, which means you can log in and view a Word file through Google from your iPhone. While this should serve fine for viewing purposes, for editing purposes you may lose some of the original formatting.

    • 2). Visit the Apple store online and purchase and install a native iPhone application designed to help you view and edit Microsoft Office files. Some apps providing this utility include Quickoffice and Documents to Go.

    • 3). Convert the Word file into a universal format that the iPhone can read, such as PDF (Adobe) or ODT (Open Office), using third-party software via the Internet. Some services providing this utility are Media Convert and Zamzar. Simple conversions are usually free. For extensive conversions, there may or may not be a fee, depending on which service you use.
