The Squeaky Wheel Needs the Grease

• There are several everyday items that you can use to quickly get rid of a squeaky hinge, and all are found in your kitchen. You can use olive oil, vegetable or canola oil or spray cooking oil. Spray oil can be a little messy, since it tends to get on the door, wall or floor, so drizzling the oil from a bottle is recommended. Simply close the door and dribble a few drops of oil at the top of the hinge. Hold a paper towel under the hinge as you gently open and close the door a few times. This allows the oil to penetrate the hinge apparatus and stop the squeak. Then just wipe up any excess oil.
  
  Let's say you're not at home and don't have access to a kitchen---like a motel or an inn. Search through your travel bag and see if you have body oil or baby oil, which would work fine. If all else fails, you could try shampoo or conditioner. Basically anything that is slightly oily will lubricate the hinge and stop it from disturbing your quiet environment.
