5 Steps to Preventing Anxiety Attacks

If you're reading this, you've probably decided it's time to start preventing anxiety attacks.
When most people first start having them, they often try to look for the wrong solution.
Many people think that there must be something wrong with their body rather than their mind.
They have a hard time accepting that what happens during an anxiety attack is caused almost entirely by the mind.
So if you've reached a point where you're prepared to start preventing anxiety attacks properly, congratulations.
You'll find your peace of mind very soon.

Don't fight it.
You can complain to yourself and others for as long as you want but doing this won't fix your anxiety.
You can struggle with it and try to use your mind to control it but it probably won't work.
As long as you fight it, you will feel anxious.
Instead, accept it.
Accept the pain, the nerves and the symptoms.
You will be amazed at how empowered you feel once you accept it.

When the anxiety attack begins, remind yourself of these positive affirmations.
Remind yourself that it is all in the mind.

Walk, talk and act as if you feel absolutely amazing.
The brain often takes its cues from the body.
It tends to figure out how to feel based on what you're doing with your body.
If you slump your shoulders, look at the ground, plaster a frown on your face and all sorts of other negative body language, your brain will inevitably choose to feel bad.
This is certainly not the way to be preventing anxiety attacks.
Try this: stand up, throw your shoulders back, look up into the sky (or ceiling if you're inside) and put a big, goofy grin on your face.
Now, try to make yourself feel bad without changing your body.
You can't - it's impossible.

Breath deeper.
Most people develop bad breathing patterns.
They breathe shallow and consequently, their body and brain end up severely deprived of oxygen.
How the heck can you expect to feel good if your brain doesn't have enough oxygen to function? So breathe deep to start preventing anxiety attacks.
Do it again, and again, and again.
Take time each day to relax and breathe deep.

Eat lots of fruits and vegetables.
Fresh fruits and vegetables contain serotonin, a feel-good chemical that the brain uses to make you happy.
If you don't get enough fresh produce, you will have a hard time feeling good or free of anxiety.
You can eat salads more often, take fruit to work, or try something like making your own fresh juice each day.
The options are endless, but it's up to you to make the positive change and start preventing anxiety attacks.
