The Importance of Giving Treats to Your Dog

Giving treats to your dog is something that most owners like doing, and believe me, dogs love getting them too.
There are tons of different kinds of treats that are on shelves for you to choose from.
Dogs are not that particular, so it is not hard finding ones they will like, however, there are some that are not good for their diet.
Most treats are pretty healthy for dogs to eat, but when you are introducing a new item to their menu, it is always a good idea to keep an eye on your dog and make sure they are not reacting to something they just ate.
Some treats clean teeth while the dog is eating them.
Greenies are an example of this line of treats.
They have been known to cause choking from time to time, so if you have an older dog or a small one, keep an eye on them and make sure they are okay.
If you want to seriously impress your dog, try some rawhide treats.
These tasty and leathery treats are a favorite among canines, and it also does wonders on keeping their teeth fresh and clean.
Just remember that they can cause choking too, so monitoring them while the eat will prevent problems.
Keep in mind that a lot of the treats that are out there are imported, and are subject to looser regulations than those manufactured in the United States.
One area of concern is that a preservative used in some of these imports actually contains arsenic.
Chocolate may be great for people to enjoy, but it is toxic to dogs and cats alike.
It is important not to give them chocolate, and keep them out of reach from your pets so they don't go sneaking bites here and there when you are not looking.
Chocolate can be fatal for a dog in high doses, and causes nervousness and hyperactivity when they are under the influence of chocolate.
These are symptoms that go along with an upset stomach, so chocolate may taste good, but it is not at all something your dog will like after they eat it.
