How to Care for Johnson ForeverTuff Floors
- 1). Keep the temperature in the home between 60 and 80 degrees Fahrenheit, and the relative humidity between 35 and 50 percent. Extreme hot or cold temperatures, as well as high humidity, can cause premature warping and shifting of the floor.
- 2). Place nonslip rugs and mats at the entryways where you have Johnson ForeverTuff wood floors. These mats and rugs help to catch dirt and grit that you would otherwise track onto the floor, causing scratches. Avoid using mats or rugs that are vinyl- or rubber-backed, as they may stain and trap moisture on the floor. Shake out the rugs or mats frequently.
- 3). Place felt furniture pads under the legs of furniture that is sitting on the wood floor to help prevent scratches. If you have pets, keep their nails trimmed. Avoid wearing spiked heels or cleats on the floor.
- 4). Sweep, vacuum or dust mop the floor at least once a week to get rid of dirt and grit. If you're using a vacuum cleaner, use one that has a felt or brush attachment head.
- 5). Wipe up spills or any type of liquid from the floor promptly. Liquid that sits on the wood for even a brief period of time can cause damage.
- 6). Clean the floors as needed with a hardwood floor cleaner and soft mop or rags. Avoid using water or any type of abrasive cleaner, vinegar, acid-based cleaner or bleach. Do not apply acrylic or wax polishes to the floor.
- 7). Apply a fresh coat of finish to the floor as needed. The period of time a coat of finish will last depends on how much traffic the floor gets. You will know you need to reapply finish when certain spots become dull, lose their shine or become plagued with a white casting. Choose a finish made for hardwood floors and follow the manufacturer's instructions for applying the product.
