How to Apply for an Economic Stimulus Grant
- 1). Establish your status for eligibility. Many different types of entities are eligible for grants. You can apply as a government or educational institution, nonprofit organization, small business or as an individual. The requirements for an individual are that you have to be a U.S. citizen at least 18 years old. Some grants have additional requirements such as income level and how much tax you have paid.
- 2). Search for a stimulus grant relevant to your industry. There are 26 different federal agencies that make grants. Go to the Grants.gov website to find all the grants in one place. You can browse by agency, category or keyword to find grants. When you find a grant, read the full description and see the closing date for applications. You can also look at the Catalog of Federal Domestic Assistance for a list of more than 2,000 federal assistance programs that are already approved and available.
- 3). Prepare to register for your grant application. You need a mission statement, a list of accomplishments and a list of references to register for an economic stimulus grant. The government wants you to display the potential of its investment in your project. Think about the application as your opportunity to sell the government on your ability to accomplish the task you care about so much.
- 4). Register with Grants.gov. The registration process takes up to four weeks, so you are advised to apply early. You do not need to register to search through the database.
- 5). Apply for the grant. Use your registration information to access the grant application and fill it out completely before sending it in. Save your grant confirmation number so you can check back later and see the status of your application.
