Dusting

• Like any other surface in the home, silk plants are susceptible to the accumulation of dust. When you're making the regular rounds with a dust rag or feather duster, remember to include your silk plants. A quick swipe with a duster once or twice a week should keep your silk plants looking lively. Make sure you work from the top down. Otherwise, you will simply be adding new dust particles to the bottom of the plants as you make your way upwards. Be sure to vacuum after dusting your plants to pick up any dirt or dust bunnies that have been dislodged to the carpet.
  
  

Wet Cleaning

• In addition to dusting, silk plants also require an occasional wet cleaning. There are several commercial products available for silk plants. These can be sprayed directly on the plant and wiped off. If you would prefer to save yourself the cost of purchasing another cleaning product, there are some homemade remedies that work as well. A drop of dishwashing liquid, dissolved in a bucket of water, makes a good cleaner. This solution can be wiped directly onto the plant. For plants with a thick buildup of dust and grime, you can also soak the silk plant in the water. In this case, you should make sure not to soak any parts of the plant that are glued together, as the water may dissolve the adhesive.
  
  A second homemade cleanser that can be used on silk plants is a mixture of one part vinegar to two parts water. This makes an excellent natural disinfectant. Pour this solution into a spray bottle and lightly spritz your plants. Dry them gently with a soft cloth. This vinegar-and-water solution can also serve as an all-purpose cleaner throughout your home.
