It's that time of year again; time for About.com's Reader's Choice Awards. The award process occurs in two stages. In the first stage, you submit your favorite Mac-related products or services in up to eight categories. You can also submit up to three nominations in each category.

Once the nomination phase closes, up to five nominees will be selected from your submissions to advance to the voting round.

In the second stage, the voting round, you choose which of the selected nominees should be the Reader's Choice Award winner for each category.

With the background out of the way, let's get down to the nomination round. Below you will find the eight Readers' Choice Categories for this year's awards. Each category has a link to the nomination form. You may submit up to three nominees per form.

Nominations will be accepted from January 18, 2012 (01/18/2012) until February 15, 2012 (2/15/2012). If a link isn't active, it's because the nomination phase hasn't yet opened or has closed.

Best Mac System Utility 2012

The Best Mac System Utility is a wide-open Reader's Choice Awards category. We're looking for any application that provides features that are missing from OS X, makes it easier to use OS X, provides access to hidden or secret OS capabilities, or just provides a better user experience.

If you have a favorite OS X utility, let us know by nominating it for the Reader's Choice Awards 2012.More »

Best Mac Backup Application 2012

The Best Mac Backup Application category is open to any backup app that at a minimum is able to back up the user's data.

Last year, we restricted the backup category to apps that could create local backups, on another internal hard drive, an external drive, or a network drive. This year, we're opening up the nominations to any backup software, including those that are web- or cloud-based. The only limitation is that they must work with the Mac and must be able to back up the user's data.

We expect most nominations will go beyond the basics and have additional capabilities, but in the end the choice is yours.More »

Best Mac Browser 2012

Twice a year we do a Mac browser shootout here at About: Macs, where we pit popular browsers against each other. We only rate them on raw speed and performance, though. For the Best Mac Browser category, you can submit nominations for any Mac browser you like, and for any reason. Perhaps there is a browser whose user interface you really like, or which has the best plug-in(s) for a service you use. The reason it's your favorite doesn’t matter; all that is required is that it be a Mac-based web browser.

Let us know your favorite Mac browser by submitting a nomination.More »

Best Application for Running Windows 2012

A friend of mine once said that the best Windows PC she ever used was a Mac running Windows. I tend to agree. When I need to run Windows or a Windows app, I turn to my Mac and either use a virtualization application or boot directly into Windows using Apple's Boot Camp.

For this category, we're interested in how you run Windows on your Mac. This category is open to any application or service that allows you to run Windows or Windows applications on your Mac. If you have a favorite way to run Windows on your Mac, submit a nomination.More »

Best Mac Word Processor 2012

We all use them, but which word processor is the best? I know what I like, but it may not be the same app that you prefer.

The Best Mac Word Processor category is open to any application whose primary function is to provide word-processing capabilities. This includes both stand-alone apps and apps bundled into a suite of tools. And this year for the first time, we're including cloud- and web-based word processors in the mix.

Let us know which word processor is your favorite by submitting a nomination or two.More »

Best Mac Image Editor 2012

The Best Mac Image Editor category is open to just about any application whose primary purpose is editing still images. This year, we're including both consumer and professional image editing applications, because the dividing line has blurred so much that it's getting difficult to distinguish between them.

It seems just about everyone uses image editing software on their Mac, so let us know which one is your favorite. (Feel free to nominate more than one.)More »

Best Mac Home Theater App or Product 2012

One of the most popular topics here at About: Macs is how to get a Mac and an HDTV connected. With that in mind, this category is all about using your Mac in a home entertainment system. We would like to know what your favorite Mac application is for working with video and images in your home entertainment system.

This category isn't limited to software; we will also accept nominations for hardware products as long as they work with a Mac.

So, take a break from watching movies and submit a nomination.More »

Best Mac Peripheral Reseller 2012

The Best Mac Peripheral Reseller is a brand-new category this year. We're asking where (other than directly from Apple) you prefer to buy Mac-related products. When you're in the market for RAM, hard drives, printers, displays, and other Mac peripherals, where do you go first?

This is a chance to let the world know who best supports the Mac market.More »
