  LED grow lights have significant advantages over incandescent and fluorescent bulbs for growing plants indoors. They emit little, if any, heat, use little electricity and last a long time. Placing LED lights close to plants will not burn their leaves, unlike incandescent bulbs. Indoor gardeners use LED lights that emit the full spectrum of light.
  
  

Tomatoes

• Tomato plants which require a good deal of sunshine, thrive with high-intensity, full-spectrum LED lights. Cherry tomatoes are especially easy to grow in a home or apartment because the plants do not root as deeply as varieties such as like Big Boy and Early Girl.
  
  Indoor gardeners can place the lights close to the plants because LED lights emit little heat, unlike incandescent grow lights. Since the lights run cool, the room where the tomatoes grow will not need special ventilation, although tomatoes do not mind warmth.
  
  

Strawberries

• Strawberries, another plant that requires direct sunshine, grow well under LED lights. With good soil, adequate food, moisture and light, the ever-bearing varieties may produce fruit continuously. When planting the strawberries in strawberry pots, use several LED bulbs to make sure each plant has adequate light.
  
  

Herbs

• Herbs grow prolifically indoors under LED lights. Basil, oregano and rosemary easily tolerate the dry conditions inside homes, especially in the winter. You can place these herbs in a single pot or a series of pots under LED grow lights.
  
  These herbs do not require a great deal of water. In fact, rosemary grows well in arid climates. Basil and oregano, which grow quickly indoors, can flavor or garnish a variety of dishes.
  
  

Greens

• Greens such as lettuce, spinach and Swiss chard, which are easy to grow indoors in pots, do well under LED lights. These plants even tolerate cooler indoor temperatures at night when grown indoors.
  
  Chard and spinach can be grown year-round in homes because they do not like warm or hot temperatures. Warm weather sends a signal to the plants to bolt, after which all their energy goes into producing seeds, not new leaves.
