How to Fix My Blushing Soy Candles
- 1). Examine the candle and the wick, and pinpoint the problem. The wick should be about 1/4 inch, and stay upright in the middle of the candle. When burning, a pool of wax should form around the wick without drowning it, and the candle should not be producing smoke.
- 2). Leave the candle to cool completely. Trim the wick to about 1/4 inch with a pair of sharp scissors. Do this to fix a candle that burns too quickly with a flame that is too long or flickers.
- 3). Remove enough wax from the wax pool to lengthen a wick. Light the candle and wait until a small pool of wax has been created around the wick. Pour out or scoop the molten wax with a small spoon until about 1/2 inch of the wick sticks out from the wax. Leave the candle to cool off and trim the wick to about 1/4 inch using scissors.
- 4). Light the candle and wait until a pool of molten wax forms around the wick. Scoop out molten wax with a tea spoon until 1/4 inch of undamaged wick becomes visible. Trim any excess wick to a length of about 1/4 inch. This will fix a candle with a wick that does not stay upright because it has lost its wax coating due to burning too long.
- 5). Trim the wick to 1/4 inch before every burning session. Fragrance oils often collect at the top of the wick creating a mushroom-top shape and this causes the candle to smoke.
