How to Change the WiFi Card on a DV5
- 1). Save any programs you have open and then shut down the HP Pavilion's operating system. Power off the laptop and remove the the power cable. Unplug all of the cables and devices connected to the laptop's ports.
- 2). Close the Pavilion DV laptop's display lid and turn the unit upside down. Push the battery release button to the left and pull the battery out of the DV5 series laptop.
- 3). Locate the mini-PCI cover at the lower-right corner of the laptop case. Use the Phillips head screwdriver to remove the single screw locking the mini-PCI cover to the Pavilion's case.
- 4). Pull the cover off the HP Pavilion to expose the WiFi card. Disconnect the cables connected to the WiFi card. If you have trouble removing the cables with your fingers, you can instead twist them gently off with a pair of needle-nose pliers.
- 5). Pull back the two plastic retaining arms on either side of the WiFi card. Lift the card out of the DV5 series laptop.
- 6). Set the replacement WiFi card into the Mini-PCI port. Set the plastic arms back into place and connect the two cables.
- 7). Put the mini-PCI cover back on the case. Insert the screw into the cover and tighten it with the screwdriver.
- 8). Insert the battery back into the Pavilion laptop's battery bay. Plug in the power cable, flip the laptop over and open the display lid. Turn on the DV5 series laptop.
