How to Make a Red Hooded Cape
- 1). Lay out the fabric and begin to trace out pieces needed to create the hooded cape. Clara.net (see Reference) offers a semi-circular pattern guide for your use to create a custom hooded cape.
- 2). Trace two quarter-circles on the fabric with the fabric chalk, and leave the remaining fabric at the end for the hood.
- 3). Cut out the two body pieces and trim the pointed corners to create a half-moon shape for the neck. Place the right side of the fabric directly onto the wrong side of the fabric to create a mirror image; sew up the straight edge of the cape to create a half-circle. Fold over the edges a half-inch and sew to create a seam.
- 4). Cut out the hood pieces from the remaining end of fabric. Place the right side of the fabric directly onto the wrong side, and sew up the straight edge to create a seam. If you want the hood to feature a liner, use the two remaining hood pieces to sew together for two hooded pieces. Place the fabric so that the wrong sides are together, and sew around the entire perimeter of the fabric.
- 5). Attach one end of the hood to the half-moon portion of the cape. Make sure that each end of the hood matches up with the end of the neck, and pin into place. Sew to attach the hood.
- 6). Attach and sew four inches of ribbon to each side of the cape, around the neck. This will allow you to tie the cape closed to keep it from falling off.
