Christmas Day in San Francisco

106 31
San Francisco doesn’t come to a standstill just because it’s Christmas. So if you’re not quite ready for the holiday activity flurry to end, or you want to escape your nutty family, seek out the events below, all of them happening on Dec. 25, 2013. Some of them are appropriate for kids as well as adults. Your Christmas bonus: Light traffic, and no parking tickets (parking meters, street-cleaning schedules and time limits in residential permit areas will not be enforced).

Volunteer
Nonprofit organizations provide meals to the needy. Glide prepares and serves meals on Dec. 24-26, though the volunteer slots on Dec. 25 usually fill up fast. The Salvation Army needs drivers to deliver meals to thousands of home-bound people.

Ice Skating
Skating outside, right smack in the middle of Union Square, or with views of the Ferry Building? You get this chance only once a year.
