How to Make a Whimsical Flower Pot Birdbath
- 1). Clean the inside and outside of the flower pots and both sides of the saucer with a soft, damp cloth. Allow the clay to dry completely.
- 2). Sand the inside and outside of all three flower pots and both sides of the clay saucer lightly with sandpaper. A light sanding will level the surface of the clay. Remove the sanding debris with another soft, damp cloth.
- 3). Paint the inside of all three flower pots and both sides of the saucer with exterior polyurethane. Allow the polyurethane to dry completely and apply another coat to the same areas. Allow the second coat of polyurethane to dry completely.
- 4). Paint the outside of all three flower pots and both sides of the saucer with a light color of patio paint. White, yellow or mint green will showcase the whimsical decorations best. Allow the paint to dry. Cover the same areas with a second coat of patio paint. Allow the paint to dry.
- 5). Cut the vinyl stickers from the large sheet. Vinyl rub-on stickers are available in a wide variety of whimsical designs. They look like painted images, but are much easier to apply.
- 6). Place the 16-inch flower pot upside down. Fit the 14-inch pot upside down on top of the 16-inch pot. Fit the 12-inch pot upside down on top of the 16-inch pot. Mark a light pencil line onto the 16-inch pot and the 14-inch pot where the rim of the smaller pot rests. Separate the flower pots.
- 7). Rub the vinyl stickers onto the outside of the smallest flower pot using the craft stick included with the sticker kit. Remove the protective paper to reveal the whimsical designs. Repeat the application process on the two larger flower pots, from the marked line to the rim.
- 8). Cover the outside of all three flower pots with another coat of exterior polyurethane. Allow the finish to dry. Re-stack the pots in the desired location of your birdbath.
- 9). Center and glue the painted saucer on top of the smallest flower pot. Fill the saucer with water.
