On October 30, 2008, a jury convicted Emmanuel of several counts, including one of torture, one of conspiracy to commit torture and one of possession of firearms while committing a violent crime. On January 8, 2009, Judge Cecilia Altonaga sentenced the 32years Emmanuel to 97years in prison. He is currently serving time in a Federal prison in Florida.

Charles Emmanuel Taylor (Jr) Alias Roy M. Belfast (Jr) grew up in a two-story home in a middle class Orlando neighbourhood, a mile from Universal Studies. His step father was a welder. His mom was a home maker. When he was 17, he flew to the West African nation of Liberia to live with his biological father.

He came to Liberia during the Liberian civil war, and his father Charles MacArthur Taylor was the launcher. Emmanuel learnt a lot from his father during the civil war. Following the overthrow of the existing regime led by Samuel Doe, MacArthur gained control of a large portion of the country and became one of the most prominent warlords in Africa. MacArthur celebrated his victories in battle during the civil war by ordering human sacrifice, including killing of his opponents and allies who were perceived to have betrayed him and by having a pregnant woman buried alive in sand.

Three years later, the senior Taylor became the president of Liberia. Emmanuel became the commander of the infamously violent Anti-Terror Unit, commonly known as the €Demon Force." The Demon Force did things like beating people to death, burning alive, rape, shocking with electrode, pressing a hot iron into a man's flesh, all in the attempt to silence the critics of his father.

During his term of office, MacArthur was involved in war crimes and crime against humanity. He aided and abetted rebels in Sierra Leone. These rebels engaged in recruitment of child soldiers and committed atrocities against civilians who left many thousands dead or mutilated. Domestically, opposition to his regime grew and led to the outbreak of the second civil war. McArthur lost control of Liberia and resigned. He went into exile in Nigeria to reduce tension in Liberia.

After his father's regime was overthrown, Emmanuel moved to Trinidad. When he attempted to return to United States, he was intercepted at Miami International Airport carrying a falsified passport. The Domestic Security Section of United States Department of Justice accused Emmanuel of participating in torture in Liberia.

On 17 March 2006, Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, the newly elected President of Liberia, submitted an official request to Nigeria for Taylor's extradition. Upon his arrival at Roberts International Airport in Harbel, Liberia, Taylor was arrested and sent to Freetown, Sierra Leone, where he was delivered to the SCSL. On 26 April, 2012, the Special Court for Sierra Leone (SCSL) unanimously ruled that Charles Taylor (Sr) was guilty of 11 count charges, which include: Acts of terrorism, unlawful killing, murder, violent to life, health and physical or mental well-being of persons, rape and use of child soldiers, enslavement and looting. And on 30 May 2012, he was sentenced to 50 years in prison.

The world has produced many celebrated speakers but few doers. We have seen outstanding teachers but fewer practitioners. We know many great writers but few self-examples. Speakers teach but doers inspire, teachers tell only practitioners lead. Writers write but self-examples enlighten.

What you say to your children is not as powerful as what you do. Your advice is not as potent as your actions. Your example is a pacesetter for them to walk on. If you say it is wrong, don't do it. Be what you want your child to be and say what you want them to say. Your child is smarter than you think. They learn mainly by observation. Children treasures examples more than mere words. Your actions teach more than books. Your counsel is a waste without examples.

Your words can be forgotten, but your actions are eternal. If we practice one-tenth of what we have heard or read the world will be a better place.

Let's talk and write less and do more.
