How to Troubleshoot a Maytag Refrigerator Ice Maker
- 1). Check the shutoff arm or switch to make sure it is in the "on" position. All Maytag ice makers have a shutoff to prevent the ice maker from producing too much ice.
- 2). Open the water shutoff valve. To make ice, a water line has to be run to your Maytag refrigerator. That line will likely have a small valve allowing the line to be shut off to make repairs. If you are not getting any ice or your ice cubes are too small, make sure the valve is fully open, and that it has no kinks that could restrict water flow.
- 3). Clear the ice ejector and dispose of any cubes that have already been made. Occasionally an ice cube will melt or get jammed in the ejector, preventing more ice from being made.
- 4). Check the freezer door and bin. A Maytag ice maker will not dispense ice if the freezer door cannot close, or if the ice bin has not been installed correctly. Rearrange your freezer to ensure the door can properly close. Remove the ice bin, clean it out and reinstall it correctly.
- 5). Check the water filter. Several Maytag models have a built-in water filter that can periodically become clogged. Remove the filter if it is clogged and replace it with a new one.
- 6). If none of the above steps help, you may have a defective ice maker. Contact Maytag Customer Service at (800) 344-1274 or go to www.maytag.com.
