    • 1). Cast on 24 stitches and make a square swatch to test your gauge. Your gauge should work out to about 6 stitches per inch for medium child size slippers. If you wish to make larger slippers, you can use a gauge of 5 stitches per inch.

    • 2). Cast on 60 stitches. Knit 13 stitches and place a marker there. Knit 34 stitches and place another marker. Knit 13 stitches and turn. On the next row, when you get to the first marker, decrease by making a slip, slip, and knit 2 together. Knit 32 stitches. When you get to the next marker, knit 2 together, and then knit to the end of the row. Turn. Knit one row plain.

    • 3). Continue in this manner, decreasing by one stitch at each marker on every other row. The decreases will be in a line. Keep decreasing until there are 4 stitches left. Knit up the 14 stitches on each of the end pieces. Now you have 32 stitches.

    • 4). Knit 14 stitches. Make an increase by making a backward loop over the needle. Knit one and make another backward loop, three times. Knit to the end of the row. Turn. Knit one row. Place a marker at the first backward loop. Knit 15 stitches and make an increase. Knit one and make another increase. Knit 3 and increase one. Knit one and make an increase. Knit to the end of the row. Turn and knit plain. Continue in this manner, making two increases on either side of the center stitches, and knitting alternate rows plain, until you have 60 stitches again.

    • 5). Knit 10 rows of garter stitch without increasing. On the next row, knit 2 together 3 times, knit 17, knit 2 together 7 times, knit 17, and then knit 2 together 3 times. Turn. Knit to the center. Weave the sides together and sew up the back of the slipper. Make a 14 inch tie by braiding three strands of yarn together. Attach it to the back of the ankle.
