Online Schools Not Just For College Students

Different types of online schools are popping up everywhere you look; from online universities to high schools and elementary schools online.
This dynamic way of learning is making particular waves in New Jersey and California.
Both of these states are using online school programs for students that might be handicapped, have trouble in a traditional classroom setting, or are non-traditional students, such as young parents.
Insight Schools in Redlands, California, is making the online school experience easier for students in different situations.
For Jasmine Bishop, attending school online enables her to continue to participate in her local traveling theater group.
The school ships to students laptops, printers, and all the supplies needed for classes - even a jump rope for gym and a microscope for science.
A special class, called "Illuminate", connects students and teachers through webcams and chatrooms for live question and answer sessions.
And the incredible part about this: it's all free for the student.
The program is funded entirely from the California Department of Education.
Sheila Shiebler, Executive Director of the program, said, "We have students who did not have a good experience in traditional schools, students who are young parents, or in athletic and entertainment industries.
" For students at Fair Lawn High School in New Jersey, online schools and courses are the way they can earn summer school credits and as a home school option.
Educere, the partner company that the school district works with, will provide the curriculum and materials for students to complete their requirements.
Students work with a "personal learning coach" that is available from 8 a.
m.
to 8 p.
m.
through email or phone.
This summer alternative school option costs significantly less for the parents than sending their student to another school district that offers traditional summer classes.
Educere class fees are $195 compared to the $300 to $600 fees that the other school districts can charge.
Not only will the student be getting their needed education though online schools, their parents and teachers will be able to track their progress using the measurement and evaluation tools provided by Educere - such as login times and amount of time spent on a page.
This program is also offered to parents that want to home school their children.
New ways of learning are sweeping the globe and the heavy weights are online schools and the conveniences that they can offer.
Students of all ages can benefit from them.
Whether they are homeschooled, young parents, handicapped or parents who would rather have them in online schools than attend ones that can be dangerous, online schools are a great way to get an education.
They are no longer just at the university level, but have also made waves in the elementary and high school level.
