How Do I Compare 7-Foot Stepladders?
- 1). Determine the use for the stepladder. An aluminum stepladder should not be bought if it will be used for electrical installation or maintenance. All other jobs can use either an aluminum or fiberglass stepladder.
- 2). Determine the weight limitation for carrying an item up the stepladder. Most stepladders have either a 300 or 400 pound weight limitation. This weight limitation includes the weight of the individual climbing the ladder and the weight of any item carried.
- 3). Go to a home improvement center and look at the ladders. Take an aluminum and a fiberglass 7-foot stepladder off the shelf. Lay the stepladder on edge and pick it up in the center like moving it to a new location. The aluminum ladder is lighter.
- 4). Look at the design of each stepladder. Stepladders are sold with paint shelves, paint hooks, different types of locking mechanisms, step grips and widths. Determine which one is best suited for the projected uses.
- 5). Reflect on all attributes of the 7-foot stepladder and buy the one right for the jobs at hand.
