After four years of paying tuition, many recent college grads feel the financial effects of the high cost of earning their bachelor degree. Yet many students continue their studies into graduate school in areas such as education. To help with at least another two years of tuition costs, a number of organizations offer graduate scholarships to students studying education. - The Applegate/Jackson/Park Future Teacher Scholarship gets awarded to one education graduate or undergraduate student nationally each year. Students must demonstrate both academic excellence and interest in the National Institute for Labor Relations Research which sponsors the award. Students must also complete an 500 word essay on the pros and cons of voluntary and involuntary union membership in the education world. The institute provides a one--time award of $1,000. The scholarship is named after three Michigan teachers who were fired for refusing to pay their union dues.

Although sponsored by the Zeta Phi Beta's, students need not be members of the sorority to be eligible for the award. The application requires students provide proof of enrollment in an educational program. Since 1975, the sorority's foundation has provided hundreds of scholarships.

zpbnef1975.org - The scholarship program offered by the Kentucky Higher Education Assistance Authority provides awards to Kentucky college and graduate education students pursuing their teacher certification. Awarded graduate students receive $2,500 towards their studies per semester. Students must finish their course load and teach in Kentucky or the scholarship automatically becomes a loan of which the student must repay at a 6 percent interest rate. The awards committee looks at demonstrable financial aid and excellent academic records to make their decision. Students must also be attending school full-time as well as residents of Kentucky.
