If you are constantly struggling to get to sleep at night then a few simple changes to your bedtime routine can often help you to get a good nights sleep.
Sleeping tips for a good nights rest Keep the noise in your bedroom down - This does not mean shut out the sounds of cars passing or fire engines or trains as these are sound that we cannot eliminate, but in reality your mind shuts these out anyway.
You should however try and eliminate unwanted noise, such as getting you partner to keep the television turned down if you go to bed before them.
Try masking out unwanted noise by listening to some calming music in bed, often if it is at just the right volume it can relax you into a deep sleep.
Ensure your bedroom is cool and not hot, as excess heat can make for a very restless nights sleep.
Also ensure that it is as dark as possible as the human body is primed to wake up when a light comes on, as it thinks it is morning again.
So if your partner comes to bed after you then try using plug in nightlights in the hallway rather than leaving a bright light on.
Alternatively try an airline style eye mask.
Blackout blinds can often help you sleep solidly until your alarm goes off in the morning.
Comfortable bedding? This may sound simple but a large number of people do not sleep well at night due to the poor condition of their mattresses and pillows.
Changing both if they are five to ten years old can make an amazing difference to you sleep quality.
Ideally you should change your mattress every five years, yet many people have the same one for 10 to 15 years.
If you cannot afford to change your mattress then at least buy the very best pillows you can, as a good pillow eases stress in your neck and helps you to relax.
Take some positive action to unwind before going to bed, and do not let the last thing you do at night be to work on your computer checking emails or surfing the internet etc.
as this is clinically proven to stimulate the activity of your brain even more than watching television prior to going to bed.
So make yourself a milky drink, and take a hot bath instead whilst reading a book.
This will greatly help relax your body into its "Sleep mode".
