How to Reuse a Washing Machine Pump
- 1). Unplug the washing machine's power cord from the wall outlet.
- 2). Remove the screws on the control panel, on the left and right sides. If there are no screws, insert a putty knife under the left and right sides of the front of the control panel to release the spring clips securing the panel to the top of the washer.
- 3). Rotate the control panel up 180 degrees so that it is out of the way.
- 4). Depress the tab on the lid switch connector, which is now visible in the top of the washer. Remove the connector.
- 5). Insert a screwdriver into the front of the spring clips on the left and right side of the top the cabinet. Pry the spring clips out of the washer using the screwdriver.
- 6). Tilt the cabinet toward you. Lift up and remove.
- 7). Release the retainer clips securing the old drain pump onto the front of the motor using a screwdriver.
- 8). Wiggle the pump back and forth to remove the pump from the drive shaft.
- 9). Squeeze the clamps on the drain lines using pliers. Slide the clamps down the lines. Pull the drain lines off the pump.
- 1). Slide the two hoses over the ports on the drain pump. Squeeze the clamps using pliers. Slide the clamps over the hoses and ports to secure the hoses to the pump.
- 2). Align the pump with the motor shaft rod. Push the pump onto the motor shaft. Secure the pump using the retaining clips that you removed earlier.
- 3). Reinstall the washer cabinet, ensuring that the tabs on the sides of the base frame lock into the notches on the underside of the cabinet. Reinstall the spring clips to secure the cabinet in place.
- 4). Connect the lid switch wire connector.
- 5). Rotate the control panel down. Secure it in place using the screws that you removed earlier.
- 6). Plug the washer into the wall outlet.
