    • 1). Purchase a battery replacement kit for a 3rd Generation iPod Nano. Many websites sell these kits (see Resources). They typically cost between $20 and $25. The kit will be comprised of a small plastic prying tool, a small screwdriver and a replacement battery.

    • 2). Insert the prying tool into the seam between the front and back of the iPod's casing, and run it around the perimeter of the iPod. This will release all the clasps that hold the two parts together. Remove the cover.

    • 3). Unscrew the six small screws that are located on the logic board. They are the only screws found anywhere in the iPod.

    • 4). Flip the jaw connector up using the pry tool. It is a tiny clasp located directly in front of the "Hold" switch. It clamps down the ribbon cable located next to it. Using tweezers, gently pull the ribbon cable free of the jaw connector so that it is no longer connected to the logic board.

    • 5). Remove the metal clip located next to the headphone jack, using the tweezers.

    • 6). Remove the logic board from the iPod casing and set it on a flat surface.

    • 7). De-solder the three-wire cable that runs from the battery to the logic board.

    • 8). Pry the battery gently off the logic board. There is a small amount of glue that holds it in place. The glue must be broken.

    • 9). Place the new battery where the old battery was and solder it to the logic board in the same place the old battery was de-soldered.

Re-assemble the iPod, in reverse order of the disassembling.
