How to Get Scratches Out of Glass-Topped Tables
- 1). Place plastic covering around anything near the table. Cover carpet, furniture or any decorative pieces that might be ruined by getting wet. If possible, remove the glass from the table and place on a larger table no higher than your waist.
- 2). Dust the glass thoroughly with a soft cloth. If you have not removed the glass, dust the rest of the table as well. Do not compound your scratch by using a rough cloth or rag. This is true for the rest of the table whether it has a wood or metal finish.
- 3). Clean the table thoroughly with a commercial glass cleaner and a lint-free cloth. If you do not want to use commercial cleaners, try making glass cleaner yourself. Add 1 tablespoon each of white vinegar and rubbing alcohol into a spray bottle. Add 2 drops of fragrant oil (lemon, lavender, mint) to the mixture. Fill the bottle with warm water and shake well. Spray either cleaner in a thin mist. Using a circular motion, clean the table thoroughly with a lint-free cloth. While wet, wipe with a paper towel to dry.
- 4). Gently rub a dab of abrasive toothpaste into the scratch. Rub for two to three minutes. Wipe away and see if the scratch seems to be less visible. Repeat the process until the scratch is gone. Clean again with glass cleaner. If you are uncomfortable using toothpaste, try a metal or jewelry cleaner. Spray the area clean afterward.
