How to Blind Stitch Two Pieces of a Quilt Together
- 1). Thread a needle with a single strand of thread. Knot one end.
- 2). Fold down the seam allowance of the applique piece with your fingers. If attaching binding, fold the binding over the back of the quilt fabric to cover the seam.
- 3). Position the applique piece on the background fabric. Hold in place with pins. If attaching binding, hold it in place with pins, and miter the corners.
- 4). Insert the needle into the fabric under the fold, burying the knot. Bring the needle out on the right side of the fabric.
- 5). Insert the needle in the background fabric, directly behind where you just came out of the applique piece or binding fabric. Position the needle's insertion point just beyond the edge of the applique piece or binding fabric.
- 6). Bring the needle back up, only 1 to 16-inches away. Pierce a few strands of the applique piece or binding fabric. If attaching binding, your stitches can be 1/4-inch apart. Repeat the stitch across the fabric.
- 7). Finish by bringing the thread to the back of the fabric and knot. Clip the thread.
