How to Run With a Hip Flexor Injury
- 1). Visit your doctor to determine that the source of your pain is indeed a hip flexor injury. Your doctor might suggest that you do not run for a few days until your injury has healed. Always follow the advice of your physician because failure to do so might result in further injury that will limit your running ability.
- 2). Apply ice packs to the area to reduce pain. Before and after a run, apply an ice pack or a bag of frozen peas wrapped in a thin towel to the area to help you deal with the pain. Do not leave the ice pack on your injury for more than 20 minutes at a time.
- 3). Thoroughly warm up before you run to increase flexibility in the knee area. Stretch the hip flexors by placing one foot on a chair and leaning forward. Repeat with the opposite foot.
- 4). Run at a slower pace. Hip flexor injuries are caused by explosive movements, and running at a slower pace until your hip has healed will help reduce pain in the area.
