    • 1). Sow marrow seeds 1 inch deep in 6-inch pots filled with potting compost, in the spring. Water the pots thoroughly and keep them damp. Place in a sunny position and they should sprout within 14 days. When the roots start to appear from the bottom of the pot, the marrows are ready to plant out in the garden.

    • 2). Till a sunny, sheltered spot. Add 6 inches of garden compost to the soil, mixing it in well. As you dig the soil, remove weeds and larger stones.

    • 3). Take the seedlings from their pots when they have grown to about 4 inches. Be careful not to damage the delicate young plants.

    • 4). Dig a hole in the planting bed a little larger than the marrow's original pot. Place the young plant in the hole. Cover it with 2 inches of compost and water well.

    • 5). Water the plant regularly. Marrows are thirsty plants and you should check daily that the soil around the plant has not dried out, especially during warm, sunny weather.
