    Dictionary Activitiy I

    • 1). Give students a list of vocabulary words to find in the dictionary.

    • 2). Tell students to write down the phonetic spelling for each word. This will help students learn how to correctly pronounce the words.

    • 3). Tell students to write down the definition of each word. Then tell the student to write a sentence using the vocabulary word.

    Dictionary Activity II

    • 1). Tell students to take the list of vocabulary words and find compound words. For example, have the student look up book and then find compound words such as bookworm or bookshelf.

    • 2). Direct the student to determine the number of syllables in each compound word. This will help the student break the words down into smaller parts.

    • 3). Tell the students to take the same list of words and find synonyms and antonyms for each word.

    Dictionary Activity III

    • 1). Assign each group of three students a page in the dictionary. Tell the students to review the words on the page for 10 minutes.

    • 2). Tell the students that they will need to develop a strategy of how to mime the words on the page.

    • 3). Start the competition between the groups and determine which group can mime the most words in a given amount of time.
