How to Apply Paint to a Kool Deck
- 1). Use a pressure washer to rinse off any pebbles and dirt from your Kool deck and to test its structural integrity. If the deck cracks or splinters when you wash it, the deck should be replaced instead of painted over as the structure is not sound.
- 2). Mix 2 to 3 tbsp. of soap with 1 gallon of water in a bucket. Dip a sponge into the mixture and scrub the deck to remove any dirt, oils and loose paint.
- 3). Rinse the deck off with the power washer and allow it to dry completely or until slightly damp.
- 4). Pour all of the cans of paint into the bucket and mix them with a drill equipped with a mixing attachment until the colors are uniform. If you are painting a Kool deck with a bare, rough or sandblasted surface, each gallon of paint will cover between 125 and 150 feet of the deck. If you're re-coating your Kool deck with paint, each gallon will cover between 250 and 300 feet of deck.
- 5). Dip the roller into the paint and apply it to the deck surface in straight, even lines. Use a paintbrush to touch up any areas the roller can’t reach.
- 6). Allow the paint to dry for 48 hours before using it.
