Our first topic is our hurricane to do list. With the hurricane season starting this month there are some important steps to take in order to prepare an air conditioning system for hurricanes and some precautions to take in the aftermath of a storm.TURN OFF YOUR AIR CONDITIONING SYSTEM: Turn off system at thermostat and the circuit breaker to avoid a fire hazard or cause electrical shock, in the event of flooding.BATTEN DOWN THE HATCHES! Make sure to check the outside unit to see if you have hurricane tie downs in place. Replace them if they are rusted or not securely tighten down.ELIMINATE LOOSE ITEMS: Remove any items that might become airborne and cause impact damage to the unit such as patio furniture, plants, toys and bikes.FLOODED AIR CONDITIONERS: The system should be completely dry and safe, NEVER restore power until you or an air conditioning professional deem the unit safe for normal usage. These simple steps can be the difference between major and minor repairs. Do not hesitate to call our Home Comfort Specialists for a full inspection of your air conditioning system. Saving Money on Electric Bill
This month the expert shares tips on how to
save money on your next electric bill.
Tip #1: Install More Plants
Installing more leafy plants and trees around your home helps reduce the
amount of sun shining on your roof, windows, and outdoor air conditioning
unit.
Tip #2: Cover Your Windows
Close your window blinds or curtains also install outdoor awnings, solar
screens, or window film on the outside of windows.
Tip #3: Adjust The Temperature
If you move your thermostat to a comfortable level you can save as much as
10 % on your electric bill. Another solution is a programmable thermostat
for programming the times that you need colder air or not.
Tip #4: Use Clean Air Filters
Dirty air filters restrict air flow and cause the system to become
inefficient, use more electricity, and cost you more money.
Tip #5: Upgrade Your System
If you need a major repair on an older air conditioning system, consider
replacing it with a new energy-efficient unit. Rule of thumb is seasonal
energy efficiency ratio of 16 or higher qualifies for rebates.
Tip #6: Seal Leaks
Schedule an ACT test for your home to find and fix those leaks in your home
Tip #7 Sign Up For Energy Programs
The power company installs a small switch on equipment that you enroll in
the program, like your water heater, pool pump, or central air conditioner.
