How to Pick Georgia Peaches
- 1). Examine the Georgia peach. If green remains on the peach, it has not ripened fully. Look for a golden or yellowish ground color.
- 2). Feel the peach. An over-ripe peach feels soft. A not-quite-ripe peach feels hard. A ripe peach allows a small amount of give when squeezed.
- 3). Smell the peach. A ripe peach smells sweet, while a green peach may only have a slight odor.
- 4). Grasp the peach with the sides of your fingers instead of digging into the soft skin of the peach with your fingertips. Pushing too hard on the peach may bruise the skin.
- 5). Pull the peach straight from the tree without twisting the stem. Lay the peach gently into a pail or basket. Lay the peaches on top of one another, but avoid stacking them too deep as the weight may bruise the peaches on the bottom.
