Gather Your Supplies

• You can make the loop stitch using any combination of yarn and hooks. You can make it in a single color or alternate for a variegated effect. Choose a yarn that works well for the project you are making, and follow the yarn's label recommendations for the size of the hook you should use. To finish your project, you will also need a yarn needle for sewing in your ends and a pair of scissors.
  
  

Work the loop stitch.

• You need to start with a foundation row of chain (ch) stitches followed by a row of single crochet (sc) stitches. The next row will be the row where you make your loop stitches.
  Hold your working yarn with your left hand and make a loop of yarn around your left index finger. Hold the hook in your right hand.
  Put the hook through the first sc stitch as you normally would, but rotate it clockwise so it goes over the yarn. Bring the hook behind the closest end of the finger loop, and carry it across so that it goes behind the far end of the finger loop as well.
  Pull the hook so that it grasps both ends of this finger loop, and pull both lengths of yarn through the sc stitch in your row, leaving the loop portion long. Now there should be three loops on your hook.
  Yarn over and pull your yarn through all of the loops on your hook. Now you will have a loop sticking out of the opposite side of your work.
  Continue this stitch pattern across the row. When you reach the end of the row, ch 1 and turn, making one row of sc stitches before making another row of loop stitching.
  
  

Work the Double Loop Stitch

• You can make a double loop stitch using the same strategy as above, except that you begin by looping the yarn around your index finger twice before every stitch. You will pull three strands of yarn through every sc stitch in this example, and after you yarn over you will pull through four loops on your hook. Work continues in the same manner across the row; the double loop stitch will simply add more loopy volume to your work.
