    • 1). Flip the switch at the pool's electrical control panel to turn the pump off -- typically the panel is located inside a shed at one end of the pool. Lift the lid off the pool pump compartment and place it aside -- the pump usually is located on the pool's deck.

    • 2). Rotate both water valves inside the compartment clockwise to turn off the flow of water.

    • 3). Place the adjustable wrench around the end of the pipe, up against the pipe fitting. Adjust the wrench to grip the pipe. Twist the wrench counterclockwise to loosen the pipe from the fitting. Rotate the pipe towards you until it comes off the threads of the pipe fitting.

    • 4). Wrap a strip of teflon tape around the threads on the end of the pipe. Repeat this an additional two times.

    • 5). Place the end of the pipe back into the open end of the pipe fitting. Rotate the pipe away from you to thread it onto the fitting. Apply a bead of silicone sealant around the end of the pipe, where it meets the fitting.

    • 6). Rotate the water valves counterclockwise to restore the flow of water. Place the compartment lid back on the pool pump compartment. Restore the electric power at the electrical control panel.
