    Choose your Florals

    • Making fabric flowers to decorate your handbags, clothing or hats is not only cheap and easy, it's a fun way to express your creativity and impress your friends. With a little ingenuity, you can turn plain attire into unique, wearable works of art in less than an hour or two. Here's how:

Cut flower shapes from construction paper, then use these templates as guides when you cut your fabric. Make two or three versions of the same shape, starting with large, then medium, then small templates. Cut each of these out of the fabric, and place the larger fabric flower shape on the bottom, with the two medium ones folded in half layered on top, to create depth and petals. Then repeat with the smallest fabric flowers, folding in half and layering on top of the folded medium petals. Sew the layers together in the middle.

    The Center

    • Find a button the right size and shape to be the center of the flower, then wrap it in a brightly colored or differently textured fabric, and hot glue it, or sew it together. Sew the fabric-wrapped button into the center of the flower.

    Mix it Up

    • Use different textures, patterns, buttons and materials to make each flower unique. Embellish your flowers with sequins, shimmery thread, ribbon, colorful or unusual buttons and other personal touches to make them one of a kind and interesting to look at.

    Backing

    • If you are sewing your flowers onto a purse or clothing, use soft felt backing on the underside of the material to hold it in place and prevent bunching.
