Facing Separation Anxiety: Who Suffers Most?

For working moms with an infant, the most distressing thought would be getting back to work.
Both moms and babies, for the time being, find it to be the extremely difficult phase in their lives to be parted from one another.
It actually becomes even harder for both when the baby is still being breastfed.
It is really hard to determine who suffers most between the two, but experts hold an educated guess.
Who suffers most between the baby and mom? It is the mom, of course! One might say it should be the baby, since s/he is younger and more dependent.
Babies do have a hard time to cope without their mother like they are used to of having, but moms have to overcome tons of other difficulties for this.
What they face is a mixture of physical and psychological hardship that hampers them at so many levels.
As adults, they often suppress the pain they go through, which can harm them terribly.
So, if it is this much hard, you must be wondering why moms have to get back to work.
Besides other obvious reasons, it is for the child's own good.
Researches show that, the children have to be made to face this shock, to develop their coping mechanism and self-dependence.
While mother's care and love can never hurt, it can certainly delay or distort the natural development of children's personality.
This shock will strengthen them and build them as more strategic, independent and confident human beings.
Then how can moms reduce their sufferings? Well, this is one self-testing situation for moms as well.
They have to love themselves more to overcome this situation.
They shouldn't, under any circumstances, blame themselves for leaving the baby for work.
They should, in fact, respect themselves more that they are working to provide the baby with the better future s/he deserves.
The first few days are natural to be the hardest, but once the baby gets used to with the idea that his/her mom is going to be away, everything will be fine.
The child separation anxiety is not only exclusive to moms who work, but also is something even homemakers face, when the child is off to school.
So, the sooner they resolve this issue together, the better.
All they need is the proper support from their friends and family, and even co-workers and colleagues to make it a less painful phase of their lives.
Also, for the moms, to be engaged in work that they love to do is a healer indeed.
