How to Make Pleats in Slipcovers

    • 1). Select a location for the pleat. The most common location for slipcover pleats is around the legs of the furniture or around a corner or curve in the furniture. They can be added in any preferred location.

    • 2). Fold the fabric back and then fold it forward to double over the first fold. Place a pin at the fold where the top of the pleat is located.

    • 3). Repeat the fold on the other side. The folds on each side should meet in the middle with fabric peeking through from behind the pleat, and should be around the same size. Place the pin on the second fold across from the first.

    • 4). Sew the pleat into the rest of the slipcover. If it is part of a furniture skirt, sew over the top edge of the folded pleat while sewing the skirt onto the slip cover. This will form the pleat while attaching the skirt to the rest of the slip cover. If it is added into the pleat, use a needle and thread and sew it from the back along the top of the fold where the pins are located.
