    Uses

    • Sanitizing products come in a variety of different packages and advertise different uses. Hand sanitizer is a very common sanitizing product. Hand sanitizer is often used after using the bathroom or touching a dirty object or a sick person. Most hand sanitizers do not require the use of water. Sanitizers also come in the form of pre-moistened towlettes. Depending on the concentration of sanitizing agent on the towlette, it can be used on skin, furniture, floors, toys and other objects. Finally, a very common form of sanitzer is sanitizing spray. Usually these sprays are diluted with other cleaning agents to provide a clean, sparkling look to any surface on which the santizing product is used.

    Ingredients

    • Most sanitizing products contain high concentrations of alcohol. In fact, the FDA recommends that hand sanitizers contain at least 60 to 95 percent alcohol. Other sanitizing products, such as Chlorox products, contain bleach and/or sodium hypochlorite.

    Green Products

    • In today's society, many people worry about the environmental impact of their lifestyles. You may want to find sanitizing products for your home or office that are environmentally friendly. Peppermint and tea tree oil have been widely touted for their sanitizing proporties. Organic ethanol, while still alcohol, is made without any of the environmentally-damaging by-products. Other environmentally-friendly household products may contain vinegar, baking soda and/or lye-free soap.

    Warning

    • Sanitizing products can be very potent and should be used according to the product directions. Keep sanitizing products out of the reach of children under the age of 8. If you use santizing wipes or spray on toys or surfaces children use, read the directions specified for children's use; most sanitizers have instructions specifically for this use. If a child eats or is exposed to too much sanitizing agent, call your local poison control center and 911 immediately.
