Yellow Brick Road Quilt Instructions
- Choose two colors that contrast with each other, like purple and yellow, or red and green. Choose a variety of fabrics in both of these colors. Keep all fabrics in a color about the same value, but vary the prints. Many bright purple prints and many bright yellow prints make for a much better looking quilt than just a couple of prints in each color.
- Cut out a variety of pieces in each print, some in every size of quilt patch. When piecing the quilt, don't look at the piece you are grabbing next to sew, just make sure that it is the correct color. Put all the small purple squares in one bag and all the small yellow squares in another, and pick blindly before piecing. This will ensure a true random sampling of prints across the entire quilt.
- Finish all the quilt blocks before beginning the quilt layout. Place all the blocks on a table or other clean flat surface, in any direction. Turn the blocks, or switch them with other blocks, until you are pleased with the design that you have created. There is no correct layout, just what makes you happy. When you are satisfied with the layout, piece the blocks into rows, and then the rows into a quilt top.
