How to Select Used Golf Irons
- 1). Determine how many used irons you plan to purchase. While it is common to buy and sell irons as an entire set (often ranging from a 3-iron to a pitching wedge), you may need to replace only a few clubs from your set. Once you've decided which clubs you wish to buy, you can begin the process of comparative shopping. You'll need to consider some variables such as price, as well what kind of shaft (steel or graphite) you wish to buy.
- 2). Visit golf stores and golf course pro shops in your area to browse the selection of used clubs. Because golfers often trade in old sets of irons when they upgrade to a new set, golf stores and pro shops routinely feature a used clubs section.
- 3). Browse the selection of used clubs and decide which clubs feel right in your hands. Because golf is a game of feel, the club needs to feel right before you can use it. Examine each club carefully to determine its condition. Depending on how the iron was treated by its previous owner, it may be in nearly new condition or rough condition. Check the club's grip for wear and cracking that may indicate you need to replace it. Examine the entire length of the shaft to ensure there are no significant dents. While scratches on the shaft may be unsightly, they likely do not affect the structural integrity of the club.
- 4). Examine the club face and head for damage. If the club has been heavily used, this is the area where any damage will be evident. Again, minor scratches are likely not significant to the performance of the club, but take time to check for major dents (especially to the club face) and other damage.

- 6). Select a set of irons, or a handful of clubs, and purchase them. If you wish to get rid of your old irons, you may be able to trade them in to the store to earn money toward your purchase.
