There are a number of acne-treatment products available over-the-counter at most pharmacies or general stores. Follow the instructions on the packaging for the best possible results.     Prevention

    • Prevention is key when combating acne. WebMD recommends you "avoid rubbing alcohol or alcohol-based astringents and toners" and use an oil-free moisturizer to keep your skin healthy. Drink lots of water and avoid using oil-based cosmetics whenever possible. Avoid touching your face with your hands or hair; the oils from hands and hair can spread to your face, causing more outbreaks to develop. Keep an arsenal of oil free personal-care products (such as sunscreen, hair products and soaps), but don't over-do it when cleaning your face.

    Misconceptions

    • According to WebMD, "You don't need to shun pizza or chocolate for clear skin." Acne is unaffected by the food you eat. However, if you do for some reason notice breakouts occurring after you eat a certain foods, avoid those foods when possible.

    Warning

    • Don't pop your pimples. Doing so could just make things worse, causing the acne to worsen or your skin to scar.
