3 Ways To Beat Depression
There is an ancient Proverb found in the Bible that states, "For as he thinks within himself, so he is...
" This speaks of the mind of man.
If a person believes he/she is an outcast, most likely that person will become an outcast.
If one believes they have problems of some sort, problems will find him/her.
The mind is a very powerful part of the human being.
It is essential to live a happy and fulfilling existence that the mind be clear and operating properly.
The Bible is where we find the words of God, the One who created all humans.
Many people today have chosen to live their life without these words to guide them.
For those who live that lifestyle there are consequences.
One of those consequences is depression.
Depression has three main characteristics: feelings of sadness, hopelessness, and unimportance.
Some will live their entire existence suffering from depression and go through different levels of it.
Others may experience it but after some time may have a moment like David, who wrote, "I considered my ways and turned my feet to Your testimonies" (Psalm 119: 59).
David was directing those words to God.
Like David, it is good to acknowledge God's existence, but even better when we turn to Him and His words to help us get through this life.
God has great and precious promises awaiting all who live out His principles.
But He has an enemy who hates us immensely.
This enemy is known as the devil and at his core he is pure evil.
If we don't live out God's ways and purposes for our life, the devil is waiting to take us by the hand and lead us to all kinds of horrible trials.
It was Jesus who said, "The thief comes only to steal, kill, and destroy.
I came that they may have life and have it abundantly" (John 10: 10).
Jesus has our best life awaiting us, if we choose, like David did, to turn our feet to God's ways.
So, if we look at the characteristics that define depression, we can find through the Bible, encouraging words to help attack that disease at its root.
Here are your three ways to defeat depression! 1.
Rejoice! In Peter's first letter, he tells us, "In this you greatly rejoice (salvation), even though now for a little while, if necessary, you have been distressed by various trials" (1 Peter 1: 6).
You see, there are two ways to react to a trial: either panic, or rejoice.
The rejoicing stems from your faith in God, who ultimately will protect you through the trial.
It is a mindset that must be practiced and eventually lived out.
We are called many times to rejoice in whatever circumstances we come across in life.
2.
Live in Hope! Peter also encourages us in the hope we can live with, "Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to His great mercy has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead" (1 Peter 1: 3).
Here is the reason we can live In this hope, that Jesus rose from the dead, therefore, we will eventually be with Him in heaven, if we turn our feet to His ways while here on earth! If he rose, we have a hope that will not be shaken, and we can even share it with others.
That is our living hope! Depression has no chance over that! 3.
Find your place! The apostle Paul tells us, "For even as the body is one and yet has many members, and all the members of the body, though they are many, are one body, so also is Christ" (1 Corinthians 12: 12).
Here we see that all who turned their feet to God's ways have become one body.
This body is called the church where all members are needed.
All members no matter how big or small are necessary to bring God His full glory so that many others may come to know Him and turn their feet towards Him a well.
There is a purpose for all people.
Nobody is unimportant! So with these three simple actions depression will have no chance to run your life! Turn your feet to God's ways and His Spirit will reside within you, and you can be protected from all diseases, mental, physical, emotional, etc.
