How to Change Kitchen Faucet Water Supply Lines
- 1). Shut off the water supply for the faucet at the water supply valve. Turn on the sink to remove the water from the pipes.
- 2). Cut the old supply lines directly below the fitting with a tube cutter. Turn the tube cutter 360 degrees around the supply line several times to cut it.
- 3). Loosen the nuts holding the faucet in place by sliding a basin wrench around the nut and unscrewing counterclockwise. Remove the nuts and pull up the old faucet.
- 4). Insert the new faucet in place and tighten the new bolts using a basin wrench.
- 5). Solder a 3/8-inch fitting to the copper pipe you cut the old supply lines from earlier. Sand the end of the copper pipe to polish the last inch it. Clean the inside of the pipe with a pipe brush. Apply a light layer of flux on the inside of the pipe using a brush. Light your torch and heat the copper pipe. Place your fitting on the pipe and apply the solder to the opposite side of the one you are heating with your torch. Slowly move around the pipe till the fitting is attached.
- 6). Flush the water line by attaching the small end of the new supply line to the soldered fitting. Turn on the water supply and let the water spray into the bucket. This removes copper and solder from the pipe.
- 7). Screw on the new supply line to the threads on the bottom of the faucet. Screw on the larger nut to the threaded brass of the faucet. Turn on the water supply and test.
