How to Put a Bike in the SRX for Transport
- 1). Remove the cargo cover. If your SRX has a cargo cover (shade) in the hatch, remove it because it will only get in the way of your bike. Slide the button on the top of the cover and pull it out from the bracket.
- 2). Put the front seats into the upright position.
- 3). Remove everything from the rear seats. Make sure the rear seat belts are unbuckled.
- 4). Pull open the lever on top of the rear seat and push the seat forward until it locks. Repeat for the other rear seat if you need the space; the rear seats on the SRX fold individually.
- 5). Lay a blanket or tarp down in the hatch floor. Cover the entire area where you'll lay your bike to protect the interior of the car from dirt and damage.
- 6). Remove the front wheel of your bike. This will make the bike fit better and will prevent the wheel from dirtying the front seats.
- 7). Insert a piece of cardboard between the front brake pads. This is only necessary if you have disc brakes. The cardboard will keep the pads from clamping down in the absence of the disc on the front wheel.
- 8). Pick your bike up and place it on the hatch floor with the fork at the front and rear tire in back. The gears should be pointed up. Slide the bike until it's inside far enough to close the gate.
- 9). Cover the fork with a blanket or towel. If you're worried about the fork poking your front seats, cover it with something to prevent that.
- 10
Tie the bike down. To prevent the bike from sliding around in transit, use the tie downs in the hatch area to secure the bike. Tie rope or bungee cord tightly around the frame and the tie downs on the sides and rear of the hatch area. - 11
Place your tire on the side of your bike or in the front passenger seat.
