How to Clean Satin Pictures That Have Cigarette Smoke Stains
- 1). Lay the satin item on a flat surface and turn it over so you can access the back of it. Remove the back from the frame by locating the metal tabs along the edge of the back and pushing them until they do not touch the back. Pull the back out of the frame and then remove the satin picture from the frame.
- 2). Examine the edges of the satin for a tag that indicates what it is made of. Satin is usually made of silk, nylon, acetate or polyester.
- 3). Fill a sink with cold water and add 1 to 2 tbsp. of a mild liquid dish soap. Stir the solution well with a spoon to mix it up.
- 4). Dip the picture into the sink and then move it in an up and down motion to wash the cigarette smoke stain out. Continue until the picture seems brighter and the cigarette smoke stains are removed.
- 5). Drain the sink and refill it with clean water. Dip the satin picture into the clean water to remove the soap residue.
- 6). Remove the satin picture from the sink and lay it on a towel. Place another towel on top of the satin picture and press down gently to remove as much of the moisture as possible.
- 7). Pick up the towel and move it to a dry area. Lay the towel back on the picture and press down to absorb more water. Continue pressing with the towel until no more water comes off of picture.
- 8). Lay the picture in a location that receives good air circulation to dry.
