The Part of a Flower That Produces Pollen
- The male part of the flower that produces the pollen is known as the stamen. The stamen has two parts, the sac-like structures called anthers that produce pollen on top of stalks called filaments.
- Some flowers also have parts called nectaries in their stamen. These structures produce smells that attract insects and birds to the flower. After feeding, they will take pollen with them when they go and take it to the pistil, or female part, of another flower.
- Flowers that rely on insects and birds for pollination are often brighter in color. Meanwhile, those that use the wind as a vector are duller in color, but have longer stamens and pistils.
