    Harvest Ramps

    • 1). Dig up ramps after they have flowered in the spring. Ramps are one of the first greens to emerge in spring and develop flowers in early spring. Harvesting the plants after they flower helps ensure that new plants will develop the following season.

    • 2). Dig a small divot around ramps with a ramp digger or hand shovel. Take care to not damage the bulb of the plants.

    • 3). Pull the ramps from the ground gently and trim the roots from the bulb with garden shears.

    • 4). Store ramps in a cool, dry location after harvesting.

    Harvest Garlic

    • 1). Harvest garlic bulbs when the green shoots of the plant start to turn brown and wilt.

    • 2). Pull garlic from the ground by hand. If the soil is stiff and you can not easily remove the plants, use a garden fork or hand shovel to loosen the soil around the bulb.

    • 3). Trim the leaves from the garlic plant and remove the roots using garden shears.

    • 4). Place the bulbs in a warm area out of direct sunlight for two to three weeks. Ensure that the curing location has good air circulation to prevent mold and rotting bulbs.

    • 5). Store garlic bulbs in a cool -- between 40 and 60 degrees -- dry location after curing until you are ready to use the bulbs.
